Pedro Sánchez defends before Infantino the candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Morocco for the 2030 World Cup

The acting President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezhas conveyed to the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantinothat Spain, Portugal and Morocco are working to put together a “solid and ambitious” candidacy to host the 2030 World Cup..

“Spain is working with Portugal and Morocco on a solid candidacy for the 2030 World Cup, with an ambitious project. This is what I have conveyed to the president of FIFA,” the Spanish president wrote on his X account (the social network formerly known as Twitter) after meeting with Infantino in New York (United States).

The highest government official, who is in the American city attending the United Nations General Assembly (UN), assured that they are doing it “with a clear idea”, that football “is a sport with global reach that can transmit positive social values.”

All the controversy generated by the “Rubiales case” and the chaos surrounding the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the women’s team have significantly damaged the image of Spanish football on a global level. The Government considers that what happened in the last few hours should not have happened, but it is confident that the strength of the candidacy will overcome all the problems that have arisen in recent weeks.
