Sony releases a brand-new update for its PlayStation 5 family of consoles that users are able to download right now.

Highlights

  • PS5 update 24.03-09.20.00 expands Game Help to include Community Game Help.

  • Updates for PS5 will continue to focus on improving stability and performance while occasionally introducing new features.

PlayStation 5 update 24.03-09.20.00 is available to download right now. Like all modern gaming systems, Sony’s PlayStation 5 is updated on a regular basis. The scope of these PS5 updates varies dramatically. There are times when the update patch notes are vague and there are no really discernible differences, but there are other times when the PS5 console updates are more substantial.

For example, the PS5 console update that dropped last month was rather significant. It improved DualSense controllers, gave users the ability to adjust the brightness of their PS5’s power indicator, added new party features, and made various other improvements. The latest PS5 console update is not quite as big as the March 2024 update, but it is still more notable than many of the other updates that have been released for the PS5 over the years.

PS5 Pro Leak Suggests Big Upgrade

A new PlayStation 5 Pro leak claims to further confirm the upgrades coming in Sony’s next console, which is expected to launch later this year.

As revealed by Sony, the latest PS5 console update has expanded the Game Help feature to include Community Game Help. With Community Game Help, players will now be able to see tips that were generated by other players’ gameplay videos. The new PS5 update has also fixed a problem where the “Remote Play connected” message doesn’t go away when using the Remote Play feature by giving players the option to manually hide it. The usual “system software performance and stability” improvements are included in the new update as well, along with a note that “the messages and usability on some screens” has also been improved.

The headlining new feature in the latest PS5 console update is Community Game Help. While it’s safe to say the majority of PS5 players don’t utilize the feature, Game Help can prove useful and gives players another option when they’re stuck in a game beyond looking up a traditional guide or watching a YouTube video. Perhaps expanding PS5’s Game Help feature to include community videos will help it become more widely-used by the community.

Since Sony is still releasing PS3 system updates on occasion, fans can expect PS5 updates to continue coming for many years down the road. The updates will vary in importance. Some will add new features, others will just look to improve the console’s stability and performance. The jury is still out on if any of the updates will add the highly-requested dynamic themes feature that users had on PS4, but hopefully it comes eventually.

PS5 Console Update Patch Notes

  • Game Help has been expanded by adding Community Game Help features.
    • In Game Help, you will see hints labeled Community Game Help in supported games, which indicates that the hint was generated from other players’ gameplay videos.
    • You can participate in Community Game Help by allowing your gameplay video to be automatically captured and added to the feature upon review. To opt in, go to Settings > Captures & Broadcasts > Captures > Auto Captures > Community Game Help, and then select Participate. You can also opt out at any time.
  • In Remote Play, if the persistent message “Remote Play connected.” is displayed during Remote Play, you can now hide this on your game screen. Go to Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Hide Remote Play Connection Status.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
