Man loses over €11,000 in cryptocurrency scam

A 47-year-old man in Limassol reported falling victim to an online cryptocurrency investment scam, losing nearly €11,600.

According to a police statement, the man said on Monday that he found a website claiming to offer consulting services for cryptocurrency investments.

After submitting a request, an unknown individual contacted him, promising guaranteed financial gains. Following the individual’s instructions, he granted access to his computer to help him create an account on a specific cryptocurrency platform.

In four separate transactions, the complainant transferred a total of €11,591.42 through an exchange to his personal electronic wallet. However, on the same day, the funds were transferred to another person’s account without his consent.

He was also asked to deposit additional funds but did not do so, leading him to report the fraud to the police.
