Alexia to perform with Cyprus youth orchestra

Alexia to perform with Cyprus youth orchestra

Young musicians from the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra Choir will join forces with acclaimed Cypriot singer Alexia next week for a concert at Nicosia Municipal Theatre.

The concert has a celebratory purpose as the award-winning singer celebrates the 30th anniversary of the release of her internationally acclaimed, multi-platinum album Alexia Performs the Classics, and she will be joined by a number of musicians, professionals and emerging artists. Taking the stage on Monday alongside the singer will be young musicians from the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony’s choir, and elite musicians from Alexia’s jazz band.

The concert revives the Golden Era of Greek Cinema and Greek Jazz from the 1930s to the 1960s, bringing back songs with melody, harmony and masterful orchestrations and celebrating the merge of the original Big Band sound with the symphonic tapestry.

With timeless songs such as An s’arnitho by Mimis Plessas, Tin Afto by Takis Morakis, Echo Apopse Rendezvous by George Mouzakis and many more, this production promises to take listeners on a journey to times gone by, with Alexia’s melodious voice and unique phrasing, together with the talented youth of the CyYSO. As October arrives, more concerts by the orchestra will enrich the island’s cultural agenda, including musical evenings for the whole family and programmes with Cypriot and international musicians.
