Highlights

  • A new update patch for Horizon Forbidden West on PC fixes performance issues with the Nvidia Reflex On+Boost feature.
  • The PC version of Horizon Forbidden West has been praised for its lush game world and enhanced visual features like Nvidia DLSS 3 upscaling.
  • Improved camera movements in Photo Mode and reduced texture streaming memory usage are included in the latest patch.

A new update patch has just been released for the PC version of Horizon Forbidden West that corrects some problems players have been having with the Nvidia Reflex On+Boost feature, among other things. The second Horizon game launched on PlayStation consoles back in 2022, earning mainly positive reviews for its stunning visuals and impressive vocal performances, even if some found the story to be lacking. Last month, Horizon Forbidden West became one of the latest Sony-published titles to make the jump to PC courtesy of Nixxes Software, the developer behind ports like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.

While its original PlayStation release was greatly overshadowed by Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West has seen renewed success after launching on PC on March 21, managing to land on the US market’s top 10 best-selling video games in less than a week. Much of the praise stems from Horizon Forbidden West’s lush, futuristic game world, which looks even better than it did on the PS5 thanks to PC-exclusive features like Nvidia DLSS 3 upscaling and image-enhancing Nvidia DLAA. Refinements have already been made thanks to updates like Patch 1.2, which was released earlier this month and improved the game’s weapon wheel mechanic while using a mouse and keyboard.

Horizon Forbidden West’s PC Release Continues a Welcome Trend for the Series

Now that both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West have received gorgeous PC ports, that likely bodes well for the series’ next installment.

Nixxes Software has just released another update patch for Horizon Forbidden West on PC, correcting a variety of technical issues. According to the patch notes, Update 1.3.55.0 resolved an issue many players were having with regressed performance with Nvidia Reflex On+Boost enabled. Changes were also made to Mouse and Keyboard bindings for actions such as Navigation Assist in Focus Mode, Intel XeSS has been updated to version 1.3 with improved image quality with XeSS Native AA option, and an Interface Text Size option has been added to the General Settings menu.

Other changes brought on by Horizon Forbidden West’s new update include reduced memory usage for texture streaming, smoother camera movements while using a mouse in Photo Mode, and improved visual quality for dust. When the player uses Quick Slot hotkeys to select weapons, the last used ammo type used will now be remembered instead of the player having to re-equip it. Lastly, there are various optimizations and stability improvements alongside UI bug fixes.

So far, there is no word on when the next Horizon game could be announced, though the end of Forbidden West and its post-launch Burning Shores DLC expansion left a few loose threads to be picked up in Aloy’s next adventure. In the meantime, PC gamers who missed out on Horizon Forbidden West when it first launched in 2022 are jumping into Guerrilla Games’ post-apocalyptic world, and now things will run even smoother thanks to the latest update.
