Derwael had not registered on the uneven bars in competition since her shoulder injury in September 2023, which deprived her of the Worlds in Antwerp in October.
The Limburger will therefore take advantage of the European Championships to return to an apparatus on which she won an Olympic title (2021) and two world titles (2018 and 2019).
Derwael returned to competition at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup last February. She took the opportunity to win her ticket for the Paris Olympic Games via the balance beam.
The native of Sint-Truiden wants to take advantage of this Euro to prepare for the Paris meeting. '”There are 100 days left before the Games and I'm going to use them to the fullest. I feel less stress than in Tokyo even if I can only do worse in the eyes of the outside world”Derwael said on Wednesday.
Maellyse Brassart, Erika Pinxten, Jade Vansteenkiste and the Belgian-American Mika Webster-Login complete the selection for the Euro.
Belgium will try to win a second ticket to Paris during the women's all-around competition. To do this, a Belgian gymnast will have to place first among the nations which do not yet have their place at the Games or their three quota places during the qualifications.
A top 8 for men?
Luka Van den Keybus, Noah Kuavita, Victor Martinez, Maxime Gentges, Glen Cuyle and Nicola Cuyle make up the men's selection.
Belgium already has its three quotas, the objective is the all-around final and individual finals. The Euro also serves as a test to distribute the third ticket for the Olympics. The first two belong to Van den Keybus and Kuavita.
