Will Muzan Play a Bigger Roe in Demon Slayer Season 4?

Highlights

  • Fans judge epic stories by villain quality-Demon Slayer excels with Muzan Kibutsuji.
  • Despite brief screen time, Muzan is hailed as a top shōnen anime villain of the decade.
  • Anticipation grows for more Muzan scenes, expected cameo appearances in upcoming season 4.

Ask any storyteller who writes epic stories, and they will tell you that sometimes your story is only as good as your villain is. This may be why fans of franchises like Dragon Ball and Yu Yu Hakusho determine their favorite storylines based on who the villain of that particular arc is. Being one of the biggest shonen anime today, it’s no surprise that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba features a memorable villain or two. The series has an excellent antagonist in the form of Muzan Kibutsuji, a powerful demon who has lived for over 1,000 years and whose goal is to become invincible.

While he has been crowned one of the greatest shonen villains of the decade, many have pointed out he has done this despite having a relatively short amount of screen time (to the point where he isn’t even seen in an arc or two). With the events of season three coming to a close, can fans of the franchise expect to see more of him in the upcoming season?

Who is Muzan Kibutsuji?

Muzan

Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Muzan is an immensely powerful and cunning demon who is responsible for creating numerous other demons through his blood. Muzan was once a human, but he became a demon centuries ago after ingesting a special type of demon blood that granted him immense strength and immortality. He possesses the ability to transform his appearance, allowing him to blend into human society undetected.

Throughout the series, Muzan is shown to be ruthless and manipulative, willing to do whatever it takes to maintain his power and avoid being defeated by demon slayers. He is responsible for the death of Tanjiro Kamado’s family and the transformation of his sister, Nezuko, into a demon (thus the personal hate Tanjiro has for him). Muzan is the primary target of Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps, who seek to eliminate him and end his reign of terror.

How Often Have Fans Seen Him in the Series So Far?

Despite being the main antagonist, viewers have seen very little of Muzan on screen. This is primarily because, despite being an all-powerful demon, Muzan shows signs that he is a coward who prefers to manipulate others into doing his bidding. Cowardly though he may be, he is also very powerful, and when Tanjiro tells the Demon Slayer Corps that he had a personal run in with him, the other members are surprised he saw Muzan at all; apparently, when many Demon Slayers lay eyes on Muzan, he is the last thing they see, as he has no issues killing them on the spot. With his tendency to let others do his bidding, and killing the few who confront him, it’s no surprise viewers haven’t seen much of him so far.

Will Fans See More of Him in Season 4?

Muzan will likely make a couple of mere cameo appearances in the upcoming season of Demon Slayer. Unless the animators decide to write some filler storylines (of which this would be the ideal place to do with, since the story basically takes a break for character development), then fans of Muzan will have to wait for The Final Battle Arc to get serious screen time from their favorite antagonist.

Though this may disappoint some fans who were hoping to see more from Muzan, one of the reasons he is such an effective antagonist is because of the power he wields despite not being physically present. His presence is always felt and there is much uncertainty about what his next move will be, so keeping him off-screen until the finale makes for a really effective storytelling decision.
