Fans of LittleBigPlanet 3 have received some bad news as it was recently confirmed that the game’s servers would be shut down indefinitely. Released back in 2014, LittleBigPlanet 3 is the most recent mainline release in the series, and one of the most disappointing aspects of this news is all the lost content created by the game’s players.

One of the biggest draws of LittleBigPlanet 3 was the great sandbox gameplay that offered players a robust set of creation tools that gave birth to some amazing user-generated content. LittleBigPlanet 3 was the most important entry in the series after the servers were shut down for previous LittleBigPlanet games. The official Twitter account for LittleBigPlanet 3 stated, “We obviously share today’s news with very heavy hearts, and thank you for your continued support over the years”.

It’s Now Time For a New LittleBigPlanet

If there was ever a perfect time to announce a new game in the LittleBigPlanet franchise, this would be it. The news of LittleBigPlanet 3 servers shutting down didn’t give players any time to salvage their years of hard work. While servers had been down since January, there was still some hope that they would come back online. However, confirmation from developer Sumo Digital revealed that ongoing technical issues will keep the servers down.

The LittleBigPlanet games have become beloved for their adorable art style and providing gamers with a place to express their creativity. A new LittleBigPlanet needs to happen in order to keep the game’s passionate community alive. LittleBigPlanet 3 is still playable offline, but the fan-built games and levels were some of the most special ways to experience the puzzle-based title. The LittleBigPlanet Franchise Is Now In Limbo

However, all hope is not lost for LittleBigPlanet, as of the main benefits LittleBigPlanet has is harboring a passionate community. The franchise may be lying dormant for the time being, but a reboot of the games is not out of the realm of possibility.

Through the years, LittleBigPlanet has become synonymous with creativity, and that deserves to be nurtured with a new game. Although it’s definitely not uncommon for an older game’s servers to eventually get shut down, it’s never an easy pill to swallow for those who still love and play regularly. There is over a decade of people’s hard and wonderful work lost to this server shut down, and they deserve to have a way to continue creating exciting content. A new chapter in the franchise could give them a place to do so, while also bringing forward all the old user-made levels so that they can still be appreciated.
