The Olympic champion's Euro, under the eyes of her mother who made the trip, ended very quickly after these two appearances. Far too quickly for the taste of the person concerned, who was unable to reach the slightest individual final.
Not being able to help the team is what hurts the most.
”We knew that for the bars, it would be very fair. And ultimately, I make a mistake at the end of the exercise, it can happenshe explained to our colleagues at Sporza. But on the balance beam, this shouldn't have happened! I really blame myself for that, and especially because I wasn't able to help the team, quite the contrary. That’s probably what hurts the most.”
Dwelling on each of her exercises, Nina Derwael first confided having “lack of time” to be completely ready for the uneven bars.
”I won a small time trial to be here but I didn't have as many rehearsals as I would have liked. I missed him two weeks. However, I had confidence in myself and in my exercise. I tried not to think about all this. In the end, I still showed that I was present, certainly not in the way I had hoped. This is how ! I can still be proud.”
Concerning the balance beam, the Tokyo gold medalist wanted more. “I didn't feel any stress, I had confidence after having done World Cups and having prepared well. I don't really know what happened. I felt unstable during the exercise, then everything happened very quickly.”
Even if the competition ended short for her, Nina Derwael does not regret the trip. “It's all part of the processshe says. It doesn’t mean anything for the Games.”
We will get back to work very quickly in preparation for the Olympic Games.
And in his speech, we could already detect a touch of optimism. “I'm glad I came, I'm going to learn a lot from this experienceassures the Limbourgeoise. We will determine in detail my exercise on the bars (Editor's note: its difficulty rating was already 5.8 this Thursday) for Paris and we will very quickly get back to work in preparation for the Olympic Games. There are a little less than three months left, which I will try to make the most of.”
