Beerschot obtained this championship title at the end of a full season, in a championship that no one has topped. “When Beerschot contacted me, I knew that the club was going to play the leading roles this season, along with a lot of potential candidates. We didn't have the best players individually but we had the best collective. We weren't always amazing but we were in first place pretty much from start to finish. I would say that everything lined up for us throughout the season, with results that were almost always in our favor.”
Michael Marcou looks back on his three seasons at RWDM: “I had a strong human experience”
Last August, when he decided to leave the RWDM for Beerschot, Michaël Marcou knew that he was facing a big challenge. “My role was the same but my daily work was different. At RWDM, I felt at home, it had almost become a family. When I arrived at Beerschot, I discovered different mentalities, a different context, to which I had to adapt. But in the end, the result was the same, with a championship title at stake.”
A new line to his list and new experiences to add to his CV, he who flourishes in this role of team manager. “I learned everywhere I went, I progressed during each of my adventures. This experience at Beerschot allowed me to get out of my comfort zone after three years spent in Molenbeek. I had to adapt to a new environment and this season was very enriching.”
And when you ask him which of the two titles is more beautiful, the answer is not simple. “If I answer that, I'll make people jealoushe retorts before launching himself. If I have to choose, I would say that the title with the RWDM is the best because it is the reward for three years of hard work. We all worked like dogs to obtain this result while Beerschot was more prepared for this title.”

He notably had the opportunity to work with Dirk Kuyt, the former Liverpool player who became Rats coach this season. “For years he was my best player on FIFA and there he was my colleague, the coachhe laughs. Despite his immense career, he is someone who is very respectful, attentive, accessible, and a very good communicator. We are practically the same age and it is very pleasant to work with him. After working with several coaches, I discovered a different style, a different approach to football too.”
If RWDM faces Zulte Waregem in the play-offs, my heart will lean towards Euvrard.

The RWDM is currently engaged in the playdowns. If the Molenbeekois keep the hope of saving themselves directly, logic would dictate that they must go through the dams box to stay in D1A. A step which could lead them to face Zulte Waregem, led by Vincent Euvrard and a large part of the staff of the RWDM champion of D1B 11 months ago and sacked four days before the resumption of the championship in D1A. “The RWDM can take its place as roadblock this weekend. Even if for 2-3 core players I hope that RWDM will save itself, if they were to face Zulte Waregem in the play-offs, my heart would lean towards Zulte because it would be a great sporting revenge for the staff. They would have the opportunity to respond on the ground and take out Molenbeek cleanly, which the RWDM leadership did not do with them.”
