Tour de Romandie: Richard Carapaz wins the queen stage ahead of Carlos Rodriguez, new general leader

Rodriguez steals the yellow tunic from his compatriot Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates). He is 7 seconds ahead of the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe), and 9 over Lipowitz.

Five categorized climbs were on the program, starting with Ovronnaz (9.1 km at 9.5%) in the first third. A breakaway of six men set out to attack him, but suffered from the terrain. Only three riders in front have crossed the summit of Rives (9.6 km at 5.4%), 50 kilometers from the finish.

After Les Giettes (4.1 km at 8.3%), Frenchman Clément Berthet (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) found himself alone for the last 45 kilometers. He was inevitably picked up by the INEOS Grenadiers train 5 kilometers from the finish.

The Colombian Egan Bernal came out of the wheel of his teammates to launch a first attack, putting the yellow jersey Juan Ayuso in difficulty. He thus propelled his teammate Rodriguez as well as Lipowitz and Carapaz. The latter took off in the last two kilometers to clinch the 22nd victory of his career, the 3rd this season.

After two time trial stages, two mountainous stages and a stage for adventurers, the Tour de Romandie will close on Sunday with a stage with an Ardennes profile, a circuit with many short and steep slopes. There are still 150.8 kilometers to go around Vernier to choose the successor to Briton Adam Yates on the list of winners. Claude Criquielion in 1986 was the last Belgian to win the race.
