Tour de Romandie: Carlos Rodriguez final winner, the 5th stage conquered by Godon

Carlos Rodriguez successfully defended his yellow jersey during the final stage. He obtained the 6th victory of his career, the first this season, and succeeds the Briton Adam Yates on the list. On the podium, the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov and the German Florian Lipowitz represent BORA-hansgrohe, 7 and 9 seconds behind. Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal Quick-Step) is 4th at 21 seconds.

There were numerous abandonments before and during a final stage in the rain. Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Dstny) as well as the winner of the time trial of the 3rd stage, the American Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) notably threw in the towel during the race.

The riders had to complete a circuit four times, including the ascent of Dardagny (1.5 km at 4.1%). Four men broke away, but it was the Frenchman Rémi Cavagna (Movistar) who broke away alone a little less than 50 kilometers from the finish. The timed exercise specialist was, however, caught again around thirty kilometers from the finish, after the last ascent of Dardagny.

The peloton arrived together to compete in the final sprint, but some riders were trapped by the last turn. Dorian Godon negotiated it perfectly to raise his arms for the second time this week after the 1st stage. He won his 10th career victory. Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek) finished 6th in the sprint, Milan Menten (Lotto Dstny) 8th and Gianni Vermeersch (Alpecin-Deceuninck) 10th.
