Bethesda’s Todd Howard has teased that some “really good” updates are coming to Starfield soon. Upon its release in September 2023, Starfield divided players, but the work continues to impress the game’s community.
The release of Starfield proved surprisingly controversial. Broadly, the game fared well critically, but long-time Bethesda fans felt it didn’t scratch a certain itch that previous games from the developer did. This led to Starfield having a low player count just months after its release. Bethesda games are renowned for their incredible longevity, but the base game of Starfield has failed to follow this pattern from the studio. Despite this rocky launch, it seems that Bethesda is committed to bringing Starfield to a place where more fans are happy with the state of the game.
Starfield Player Takes Advantage of Bug to Build Unique Structure
While creating an outpost, a Starfield player online takes advantage of a strange bug to create another unique structure in the game.
In an interview with IGN, Bethesda’s Todd Howard claimed, “we’re doing a lot of Starfield work as well. So we have some really good updates that are going to get announced soon for that game.” The most recent update for Starfield was the largest to date, bringing an enormous number of fixes to Bethesda’s space RPG. If numerous updates are on the way of this scale, then Starfield players certainly have a ton to look forward to going forward.
Todd Howard Teases Starfield Updates
Regardless of other developments at the studio, it was clear that Bethesda was never going to simply abandon Starfield. The developer has a long history of updating its games for years past their initial launch date and on top of this, there is still the Shattered Space DLC for Starfield to come. Not only will Shattered Space likely add a substantial amount of content to the game, but it also represents a clean slate for Bethesda. If Shattered Space can prove a hit with players, it could be a great chance for the public perception around Starfield to shift, winning back some community goodwill for Bethesda.

With Bethesda reaffirming its commitment to Starfield, it is an extremely busy period for the studio. It was recently confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is in a playable state, and development on the long-awaited sequel is now in full flow. The ongoing success of the Fallout TV show complicates matters too – it remains to be seen if the studio will find a way to capitalize on this while the hype is still enormous. No matter what happens, one thing is for sure – it’s a good time to be a Bethesda fan.
