Hubert had to work quickly to prevent his team from sinking from the start. After ten minutes of suffering, we were far from imagining that the RWDM would lead 0-3 a quarter of an hour later. And yet, that’s exactly what happened.
On his first outing orchestrated by Marsoni, the phase pursued by Camara, Mercier and Alberto allowed Gueye to emerge like a fox from the surfaces to score his tenth goal of the season, his second in these playdowns. The RWDM did not let up and three minutes later, Sousa appeared to slam a corner from Mercier in the back, an exercise on which the Molenbeekois had only been effective once this season, it was on September 16 against the Circle with Luis Segovia.

The RWDM continued its magical triptych when Camara obtained a penalty (the third of the RWDM in playdowns) which Alberto was the first to convert for the Molenbeekois in this mini-championship for maintenance. Enough to silence the entire Éperons d’or stadium.
But as everyone knows, Kortrijk is never dead when it plays at home, even when it is down 0-3. Ambrose revived hope and the RWDM began its long phase of suffering.
Sarr, the profitable tactical choice
Knowing very well that he was going to suffer during the second act, Yannick Ferrera sacrificed Mercier to try a tactical move which ultimately paid off. The RWDM coach brought Sarr up to bulk up his midfield. “We needed more consistency to counter the infiltrations coming from their midfield. We knew that this would bring more men into our camp but that it could also give us more possibilities for counterattacks”explains Yannick Ferrera.
Which could have resulted in a 1-4 at the restart but in the end, the dreaded 2-3 fell 25 minutes from time. Supported by its public, Kortrijk was then overexcited. The danger constantly returned via the flanks but Makosso and Sousa showed themselves to be imperial, just like Hubert who continued to go and collect the balls while each Molenbeekois was heroic.
Finally, while the referee had left seven minutes of stoppage time, on yet another counter, Gueye served Reine-Adélaïde for the goal of the deliverance.
With this precious victory, the RWDM has done well in the race for the play-offs, distancing itself from Kortrijk, which it will host again next weekend, to perhaps deal it the final blow. But above all, the Molenbeekois proved that they were capable of suffering, further proof that this team has grown a lot since Yannick Ferrera took it over.
