His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, visited the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, as part of His Highness’s official visit to the United States of America.
During a tour of the hospital by senior officials, His Highness was briefed on its various specialized departments in the field of pediatric surgery and the healthcare it provides to them according to the highest international medical standards, and its use of pioneering innovations in their treatments, in addition to the hospital’s continuous development and its provision of online consultations for patients residing in the UAE.
His Highness exchanged friendly conversations with the patients and their families, wishing them a speedy recovery.
His Highness’s tour included the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, which provides the latest treatments in the field of pediatric surgery from various countries around the world. His Highness listened to an explanation of the technologies and innovations that the institute continues to develop to treat its patients, including the “miniature pacemaker” designed for infants, the first model of which His Highness had seen in 2019. Today, thanks to the support of the UAE, it is used in more than 40 pediatric patients, five of whom are newborns.
His Highness was also briefed on the tasks of the “Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Command Center,” which uses advanced artificial intelligence technologies to diagnose and proactively detect critical medical conditions such as cardiac arrests, which enhances the chances of successful treatments and saves patients’ lives.
The center allows surgeons and cardiologists to provide remote medical consultations with doctors from all over the world, including Abu Dhabi and the UAE field hospital in Gaza.
During his tour of the hospital, His Highness met with the families of a number of Emirati children receiving treatment and their companions, where he checked on their health and the progress of their treatment, stressing that caring for the nation’s children anywhere is a top priority for the state.
His Highness wished the children a speedy recovery, praying to God Almighty that they return home and to their families as soon as possible in the best of health and wellness.
For their part, the children and their families expressed their happiness at the visit of His Highness the President of the State, and thanked His Highness for the care they receive.
Over the past years, the UAE has contributed $150 million to support the Children’s National Hospital in Washington to establish the “Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation” and $30 million to establish the “Research and Innovation Complex,” as part of the country’s vision to improve the lives of children from around the world by supporting the development of life-saving treatments and enhancing the levels of innovative health services provided to them.
His Highness was accompanied during the visit by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Presidential Court, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Director of the Office of the President of the State for Strategic Affairs, and His Excellency Yousef Mana Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States.
