The Mettet Circuit enters its 3.0 phase and has a new driving training center

“There was the Mettet 1.0 until the beginning of the 2000s with the road circuit and the cars brushing against each other at 200km/h at the circuit café. From 2010 there was the permanent circuit that we all know, the Mettet 2.0. And, finally, Mettet 3.0 with a new driving training center open to all to improve their skills, necessary following the increase in the population and the number of cars/motorcycles on our roads. indicates Freddy Tacheny.

RUMESM, which watches over the circuit, has launched the “MettetXP” banner, the new name for the entire area including the circuit itself, the dirt track and the brand new training center.

This training center project, embodied by the immense asphalt field having replaced the stony parking lot that we previously knew, was able to succeed thanks to a budget of 1.2 million euros and the support of the Walloon Region.

“Motor sport remains a sport that we must continue to support,” explains Minister Adrien Dolimont. “We have to put our athletes in our best conditions because we know that we don't always have the terrain to train ideally. We see this in particular in motocross. This mastery center meets this need while offering a structured solution to preserve the place.”

For everyone, and pilots

The center, the premises of which began in 2021 before work begins in early 2023, will be used for car/motorcycle training to learn how to ride better. Car drift lessons are planned, with vehicles provided by Michael Mazuin. Motorcycle skidding courses should be completed in 2025. A refresher course dedicated to pilots will also be provided by Speed4Fun. An agreement with Bara driving schools for motorcyclists is also in the works.

“Between RUMESM and the commune of Mettet, it’s a long love story”adds Yves Delforge, mayor of Mettet. “I am happy to see the Mettet circuit open to everyone to allow everyone to improve. We wonder every day on the road where some people got their license. If we save lives thanks to the training of the new center, we will have succeeded in our bet, whatever the grumpy people say. The Mettet circuit is not just CO2. It is also a service to the population with indirect benefits for businesses and the Horeca sector. I am to be mayor of Mettet… even if I am not a fan of motor sports.”
