Albärt is the name that was chosen following a vote by the European Football Confederation (UEFA), the German Football Association (DFB) announced. The other proposals Bärnardo, Bärnheart and Herzi von Bär were not accepted, while Albärt received 32% of the votes.
The Euro 2024 mascot is a teddy bear. “The mascot is a tribute to the popular teddy bear, which is believed to have originated in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century,” UEFA announced. The then-unnamed European Cup bear was presented to German fans in June during the national team's match against Colombia in Gelsenkirchen.

For several months, Albärt has been touring schools across the Rhine and even across Europe, as part of a campaign aimed at encouraging physical exercise. “As a parent, I know how important it is to capture the imagination of children. With the introduction of the tournament mascot, we hope to create a funny and friendly character who will be a source of inspiration for all” , commented Philipp Lahm, director of the Euro 2024 tournament, a few months ago.
Celia Sasic, tournament ambassador and vice-president of the German federation, explained that “by playing sport, children gain self-confidence, improve their motor skills and learn important life lessons that will shape their future. This mascot will convey this strong message.”
