A Lebanese army source said today, Monday, that its forces are repositioning near the border in southern Lebanon, following the American announcement of “limited operations” carried out by Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory.

The source said that “the Lebanese army forces are repositioning and reassembling forces” in parts of southern Lebanon near the border with Israel.

The US State Department announced on Monday that Israel is “currently carrying out” limited operations targeting Hezbollah inside Lebanese territory.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “This is what they told me, that they are currently carrying out limited operations targeting Hezbollah infrastructure near the border.”

For its part, the Israeli army declared, “The areas of Metulla, Misgav Am and Kafr Giladi in northern Israel are a closed military zone. Entry into this area is prohibited.”

The Lebanese National News Agency reported “violent artillery shelling targeting the town of Wazzani.”

Since Monday, areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, up to the southern suburb of Beirut, have been subjected to intense and unprecedented Israeli bombing since the escalation between Hezbollah and Israel began about a year ago.

More than a thousand people have been killed in Lebanon, according to the authorities, since the level of escalation between Hezbollah and Israel rose in mid-September.
