Tekken 8 Reveals Free Update Roadmap and Second DLC Character

Highlights

  • Bandai Namco unveils a new Tekken 8 content update roadmap with free stages and game modes.
  • The reveal also confirmed the second Season 1 DLC character as Lidia Sobieska, who originally debuted during Tekken 7 Season 4.
  • New seasonal updates for Tekken 8 include Photo Mode, Seaside Resort Stage, and a new story mode chapter in the fall.

Bandai Namco reveals a new free update roadmap full of content like stages and game modes, while also confirming that Lidia Sobieska will be joining the Tekken 8 roster as the second season 1 DLC character. It’s been an interesting road for Tekken 8 since it launched in January to acclaim reviews and bypassed numerous sales milestones. In fact, Tekken 8 quickly overtook its predecessor in sales, claiming 2 million copies sold in less than 3 weeks.

However, over the past month, things have seemingly taken a turn as Tekken 8 has been part of numerous controversies involving monetization practices like a Fight Pass, paid character cosmetics, in-game shop, and more. Fan discontent has continued to rise as the Steam user review has steadily fallen over the past weeks and has since settled on “Mostly Negative” for recent reviews. As Bandai Namco attempts to right the ship once more, the company has revealed new content coming to the game, a mix of free seasonal updates as well as the next major DLC fighter joining the roster during Season 1.

Tekken 8 Releases Update 1.03.02

The latest Tekken 8 update is live, featuring a small assortment of character adjustments, bug fixes, new cosmetics, and other improvements.

Following in the footsteps of Tekken 8‘s version of Eddy Gordo, Bandai Namco confirmed that Lidia Sobieska is going to be the second DLC character coming in Season 1. Lidia was originally added during the fourth season of Tekken 7, whose background includes being the current Prime Minister of Poland. Lidia came alongside the Island Paradise stage and, based on the short Tekken 8 gameplay clip, she is again practicing her martial arts on the beach. The reveal ties in nicely to the next major announcement from Tekken 8, a seasonal content roadmap.

Tekken 8’s Free Content Roadmap and Dates

In addition to the Lidia news, Tekken 8 also took the opportunity to confirm a roadmap of content coming to the game throughout the rest of the year. While there are no hard dates announced, Tekken 8 is targetting seasonal updates bringing new content into the game like Photo Mode, new stages, Ghost vs Ghost, and more. In fact, autumn is planning to bring a new chapter to Tekken 8‘s story mode.

  • Spring: Balance Adjustments
  • Summer: Seaside Resort Stage, Photo Mode
  • Autumn: New Story Mode Chapter
  • Future: Online Practice, Ghost vs Ghost

While the announcement was met with positivity from many fans, players are hoping recent issues are quickly addressed as well. Recently, Tekken 8 players have seemingly identified an issue with online matchmaking, seemingly prioritizing overall battle experience to match players instead of the usual character rank. This has caused problems with matchmaking, as some players matched with the same individual for over an hour, while many have seemingly just stopped playing due to the tweaks. Bandai Namco has acknowledged the changes and continues to listen to feedback, though no additional changes are planned for now.
