Tekken 8 Releases Update 1.03.02

Highlights

  • Tekken 8 Update 1.03.02 focuses on bug fixes and character adjustments for a smoother gameplay experience.
  • Eddy Gordo and Zafina have received specific adjustments in this latest patch to improve balance.
  • Despite no major new content, fans will appreciate the improvements in Tekken 8’s gameplay.

Tekken 8’s latest update patch is now live, bringing with it a host of bug fixes and other quality-of-life improvements. The latest entry in the hard-hitting Tekken franchise was released back in January and has earned rave reviews thanks to its visual presentation and more “aggressive” gameplay. Tekken 8 marks a new chapter in the far-reaching Mishima family saga, as Jin Kazama returns to his earlier role as a hero and aims to take down his father Kazuya Mishima once and for all, while a large cast of supporting characters embarks on their own connected stories through intense, one-on-one battles.

While Tekken 8 was already warmly received when it first launched, developer Bandai Namco has been refining the game through update patches throughout 2024. The most recent one, Update 1.03.01, finally introduced longtime Tekken alumni Eddy Gordo as a playable DLC character among other tweaks. However, the subsequent addition of a Tekken 8 battle pass has been met with considerable backlash, enough for some players to begin posting negative reviews on the game’s Steam page.

How Tekken 8’s Eddy Gordo Compares to Past Iterations

Eddy Gordo brings a familiar flair as Tekken 8’s first DLC character, but some of the changes made to his gameplay are major departures from the past.

Despite this controversy, the developers are moving ahead with the next Tekken 8 update patch, which is now available to download as of today. Update 1.03.02 is primarily focused on fixing bugs and adjusting the balance of certain characters like Eddy Gordo and Zafina. New items are also being added to Tekken 8’s Tekken Shop, such as seven Avatar skins.

Server maintenance for Tekken 8’s Update 1.03.02 is already complete, so players can just dive back into the game once the latest Tekken 8 patch is finished downloading. File size information isn’t included in the patch notes, so it isn’t clear how much storage space the new update will take up or how long it will take to download. It is worth pointing out that there doesn’t appear to be any major new content in this latest patch aside from the aforementioned skins, so it should be a light download.

That being said, any improvements to Tekken 8’s already solid gameplay are likely to be welcomed by the game’s loyal fanbase, even in light of the recent controversy surrounding the use of an online battle pass to draw revenue on top of Tekken 8’s hefty $70 entry price. This latest update patch doesn’t do much to address this backlash, but it will ensure that Tekken 8 will run more smoothly on the battlefield.

Gameplay Improvements

Common

  • Rage Art Heat Burst – Fixed an issue where in specific situations, opponents were able to move during the time freeze animation before the activation of Rage Arts or Heat Bursts.
  • Tornado – In version 1.03.01, adjustments were made to the collision detection between characters and walls to address the issue of slipping through opponents and whiffing when performing a Rage Art after executing a Tornado near a wall. However, as a result, certain existing combos became inconsistent. Therefore, we have reverted this adjustment.

Azucena

  • Forward, Forward, Forward (hold), 3 – As a countermeasure against this attack, we initially implemented balancing adjustments in version 1.03.01 with the assumption of “evading sideways and then counterattacking.” However, due to the current difficulty in executing counterattacks, we have made the following additional adjustments.
  • The recovery frames have been increased by 5 frames.
  • The forward movement distance after the end of the attack duration has been reduced.

Eddy

  • Heat Dash
  • The ability to activate Heat Dash despite whiffing in specific circumstances has been corrected.
  • The forward movement distance after the end of the attack duration has been reduced.
  • Dash and Back Dash – The input window has been adjusted to mitigate the occurrence of the unintended dashes or back dashes.

Zafina

  • Back Dash — Due to animation data changes, back dash distance was shorter than expected so this was reverted to its v1.02.01 state.

Scope of Update

  • “DOWNLOADED REPLAYS”, “MY REPLAY & TIPS”: Replay data from before the update will be unavailable for playback.
  • “ONLINE REPLAY”: Replay data from before the update will be deleted.
  • “SUPER GHOST BATTLE”, “GHOST MATCH”: Character behavior and move properties will reflect that of the post-update state.
