Fans of the cozy farming sim Stardew Valley have discovered a new Easter egg hidden in the game’s menu screens. Added in Stardew Valley’s recent 1.6 Update, the find is yet another reason to enjoy the game’s massive expansion.

On March 19, Stardew Valley received its first major content update in four years, resulting in a resurgence of the charming farming game’s popularity. Update 1.6 brought tons of content to the game, allowing veterans and newcomers alike to enjoy a new farm type, festivals, pets, and NPC dialogue. Old professions like fishing and mining have been revamped with new random events like the Fish Frenzy, while the Trout Derby and Squidfest mini-events offer exclusive rewards.

Tales of the Shire Already Has the Ideal Candidate for its Version of One Stardew Valley Character

Tales of the Shire draws clear inspiration from farming sims like Stardew Valley, which may hint at the inclusion of one Lord of the Rings character.

Aside from its lovable characters, endearing pixel art, and uplifting soundtrack, Stardew Valley’s enduring popularity is due in part to the care and detail solo developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has poured into his creation. From cursed children to Mayor Lewis’ infamous purple shorts, Stardew Valley hides dozens of secret Easter eggs for the inquisitive player to find. Redditor Glittering_Taste2105 recently shared their discovery that the 1.6 Update includes even more secrets. Featuring the mysterious creature that serves as ConcernedApe’s logo – which the developer insists is not a cat – next to some adorable dancing Jumino sprites, the new Easter egg is the latest addition to Stardew Valley’s many hidden menu screens.

The exact trigger for the Easter egg is still unknown, but the addition is just one of the many random encounters that make Stardew Valley special. Other new Easter eggs include a sneaky truffle crab lying in wait to surprise players attempting to harvest the valuable resource and another unexpected run-in with the mayor’s uncanny underwear. While PC players have been enjoying the update’s new features for over a month, eager gamers will have to wait a little longer until Stardew Valley’s 1.6 Update comes to consoles and mobile. While ConcernedApe has assured fans that these will be “released as soon as possible” and will feature almost all of the same content as their PC counterpart, the developer has also revealed that the expanded 8-player multiplayer mode will not be coming to consoles.

Although the game has enjoyed a cult following since its release in 2016, Update 1.6 may well be Stardew Valley’s last major content expansion. After the console release of Update 1.6, ConcernedApe will soon turn his attention back to his upcoming supernatural single-player project Haunted Chocolatier. However, the game’s flourishing modding community will likely ensure that Stardew Valley thrives for many years to come.
