Stardew Valley: Fish Frenzy, Explained

Almost a month after the release of Stardew Valley’s Update 1.6, developer ConcernedApe surprised players with another extensive patch that adds even more new content to the game. Update 1.6.4 has completely revamped the fishing and mining experience for new and veteran players of Stardew Valley.

Fishing in Stardew Valley is a challenging yet rewarding activity where you can catch various fish from the oceans, rivers, and lakes around the Valley. While fishing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, Update 1.6.4.’s new Fish Frenzies, with their increased catch rates and rare fish possibilities, might just change your mind.

There are four hidden areas for you to explore in Stardew Valley’s Pelican Town. Here’s how you can find each one.

What Is A Fish Frenzy

A Fish Frenzy is a new random event in Stardew Valley where several fish of the same type spawn together in a bubbly spot. This makes it so much easier to catch a particular kind of fish, provided that it can be caught during the current season and weather pattern. They can occur at The Beach, Pelican Town, Cindersap Forest, or The Mountain.

While they look similar to the regular bubbling spots, Fish Frenzies are far more intense. Fish practically leap out of the water and throw themselves at your bait – begging to be caught. Fishing in these special spots significantly increases your chances of catching the specific fish for the frenzy.

How To Get A Fish Frenzy

Fish Frenzies are daily events that randomly occur during the day, before 11 PM, as long as there is no festival on that day. Since they’re a part of the 1.6 Update, Fish Frenzies are only available in the PC version of the game for now.

To experience a Fish Frenzy, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • Catch at least three fish and play for at least 3 days.
  • Play for a minimum of 14 days, regardless of the fish caught.

Once you fulfill these conditions, you’ll get the chance to encounter a Fish Frenzy every day. Each Fish Frenzy is focused on one particular type of fish and one location.

When a Fish Frenzy begins, you will get an in-game notification that states, “A [fish name] frenzy has begun in [location name].” Fish Frenzies only last for two hours, so make sure to grab your fishing rod and head to the given location quickly.

While Fish Frenzes offer increased catch rates and the chance to reel in elusive fish, the game’s rarest catches, known as
Legendary Fish,
will never be a part of these frenzies.
