South Park has reached a new level of international exposure as the popular animated show hits a new milestone in its reach with the latest development in its distribution model for international markets under a new plan by Paramount Global.

South Park has been a major force in the entertainment industry since its debut in 1997, growing over time to become a household name in adult animated shows and branching out to become a multimedia franchise with tons of products, Including a long list of South Park video games. In addition to being wildly popular in the US, the show has also increasingly been making waves in international markets as a part of popular culture via memes and video games, as well as the show coming up in public discourse on social issues and celebrity slander.

As covered by The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Global has announced plans to launch a plethora of South Park-themed channels in international markets to spread the show’s oft-inappropriate humor and commentary even further. Paramount Global is doing this through Pluto TV, an ad-based streaming platform for international markets. This new plan is currently aimed at existing content, with no indication of what it means for future episodes. Kat Kowalski, senior vp of international content strategy & acquisitions at Pluto TV, also gave a statement concerning the new move.

We know that this is one of Paramount’s fan-favorite franchises, and we are excited to offer viewers a new way to enjoy a series that, for the last 26 years, has entertained multiple generations with its funny and subversive world across the whole Paramount ecosystem.

In addition to a dedicated South Park channel on the platform, Pluto TV will also feature temporary themed channels featuring episodes of the show. Preliminary plans are to theme these around various characters from the series, which has an ever-expanding cast of hilarious personalities. While some South Park characters have been written out or retired, the majority of the cast has been going strong and has all sorts of interesting episodes and even story arcs dedicated to them. These smaller channels will serve as a wonderful way for longtime fans to enjoy past episodes with some rhyme and reason beyond just chronological order, while the main channel will serve new fans who want the entire experience in order. Paramount Global has certainly shown that it appreciates the star power the series has shown since day one.

Not many shows can say they have a catalog that can carry its own channel on a streaming platform, but South Park has more than earned the confidence that Paramount Global has shown. The show stays in the limelight with timely and topical titles, such as the South Park episode that mocks AI by using AI released at a time when concerns were at their peak about the technology taking over. With the new platform and arrangements for international markets, it’s likely that South Park will only become more popular worldwide.
