Roland-Garros will not give Rafael Nadal any gifts: “It is not an option that is on the table”

Rafael Nadal does not yet know if he will participate in Roland-Garros.

“We keep our fingers crossed, especially for him, for us toounderlined the former world number one. We of course want to welcome him here again. He is at home, he knows it. We are closely following what is happening to him on the ground. A tribute, no homage? It's very dependent on him, above all. We wait a bit to see how it develops, and then, above all, we will follow his wishes.”

The question of whether seeded status could be granted to Rafael Nadal (Editor's note: he is currently 512th in the world) because of his glorious past at Porte d'Auteuil has been fueling conversations for several weeks. But on the management side of the second Grand Slam of the season the situation seems clear: “It's not current, exhibited Amélie Mauresmo. Non-compliance with the world ranking for the designation of seeded players had existed at Wimbledon at one time and we saw that if it could have advantages, it also contained disadvantages. So, no, that’s not an option that’s on the table.”

To discover the great novelty of this 2024 edition, you will have to turn to the Suzanne-Lenglen court which will be adorned with a retractable roof like the Philippe-Chatrier. The second largest enclosure on the site will even host qualifying matches (Editor's note: from May 20). On the other hand, there is no question of scheduling night sessions which will begin on Sunday 26th on Chatrier, i.e. eleven evenings.

”The Lenglen coverage was eagerly awaitedcontinued the former Wimbledon winner. It will allow you, in the event of bad weather conditions, to offer matches by sheltering 25,000 people in total, on the two main courts (Editor’s note: 15,000 on the Chatrier, 10,000 on the Lenglen). Regarding the night sessions on the Leglen, we quickly ruled out this option. Our site as a whole could not absorb the day's population in addition to 15,000 people on one side and 10,000 on the other, waiting to enter the Chatrier and the Lenglen. The crossover would have been too complicated, it would not have worked in terms of security.”

Also note this year the appearance of a junior wheelchair tennis tournament with four boys and four girls…
