The 10 Miles, the main distance which will start in several waves from 1:05 p.m., has been sold out for six weeks. More than 6,000 runners have already registered for the Short Run while around 2,500 young participants will start the Kids Run. In total, a record number of 40,000 runners are expected at the start on Sunday.
“There are many new features on the course this year”says Greg Broekmans, for Golazo, organizer. “There is a collaboration with Qmusic with a series of events, we are pampering supporters even more with several cheering lanes and DJ-booths and we are focusing even more on mobility solutions. We really want every runner to enjoy the day to the fullest.”
A somewhat adapted route
Some changes have been made to the route. After the start, the approach to the Kennedytunnel was changed, which also makes the section between the Scheldt and the Galgenweel new. In the center, the route takes the pleasant Kloosterstraat for the first time, while on the Eilandje, a new loop includes the Nassaubrug and the MAS, yet another highlight of the route. The Short Run, for its part, this year makes the round trip between the Scheldt and the Galgenweel.
Another new feature: the collaboration with Qmusic and the resulting additional entertainment along the route: dj's Maarten&Dorothee at the Bolivarplaats as well as Ulrike d'Hauwer at the MAS, a radio studio in the finish area, Tom De Cock as speaker upon arrival, an afterparty at the studio at 5 p.m…. In addition, as tradition dictates, there will be music every kilometer (with a DJ or a group) and supporters will be able to choose, in addition to the Bolivarplaats and MAS, one of the other cheering zones at the rechteroever (the Leopold de Waelplaats or the Hessenplein).
Olympians Michaël Somers, already a three-time winner in Antwerp, and Hanne Verbruggen will be there, as will several personalities from the north of the country, particularly from the political world.
