PS Plus Extra Losing 7 Final Fantasy Games and 18 Other Titles

Highlights

  • Final Fantasy games leaving PS Plus Extra on May 21 include classics like FF7 and FF10, a sad loss for fans.
  • PS Plus Extra games work like PlayStation Now, as opposed to the Essential games that can be kept forever.
  • Extra and Premium tier game lineups are changed on a monthly basis.

Subscribers to the Extra tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription service should note that seven Final Fantasy games are set to leave the lineup on May 21, with 18 other titles getting the boot as well. Those who are signed up to the Essential tier of PlayStation Plus can keep those games forever as long as they stay subscribed, but the games that make up the Extra and Premium tiers are available on a rotating basis.

Basically, the PS Plus Extra and Premium games work like the defunct PlayStation Now service. New games are added on a monthly basis, and games are removed from the service every month as well. Sony doesn’t make a big announcement about the PS Plus Extra and Premium departures like Microsoft does with Xbox Game Pass, but fans do know what’s on the chopping block thanks to the leaving soon section.

The Best Online Co-Op Games On PlayStation Plus Extra & Premium (April 2024)

Looking for an online co-op game to play with a few friends? Then these are the best options on PS Plus.

As pointed out by Push Square, 25 games are set to be removed from PS Plus Extra on May 21. The departures include Absolver: Downfall, Abzu, Adrift, Ashen, Elex, How to Survive 2, Jotun, I Am Dead, Last Stop, Minit, Monster Jam Steel Titans 2, My Friend Pedro, Observation, Sundered, The Artful Escape, The Messenger, This is the Police, and This is the Police 2. However, PS Plus subscribers may be most concerned with the seven Final Fantasy games that are getting the boot, which include Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered, Final Fantasy 9, Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster, Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy 15: Royal Edition, and World of Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy was once a big selling point for PS Plus Extra, as the service made it possible to play multiple classic games in the long-running JRPG franchise in one convenient location. Considering this, it’s definitely sad to see them go, especially all at once like this. Any Final Fantasy fans that may want to revisit some of these games before they’re removed should definitely be sure to do so before May 21 rolls around.

There are a lot of games leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium in May 2024, but the good news is that there should be plenty of new additions as well. The PS Plus games lineup for May 2024 has yet to be announced, but more information on that front should come to light next month.
