The world of One Piece is filled with all sorts of mysteries. Most of these secrets have been hidden by the World Government, out of fear that people might launch a rebellion. There are only a few characters, who know the truth, but they have either feigned ignorance or gone into hiding.

Many of these characters are gray and weak; thus, they cannot defend themselves from any threats. Pirates and other people who want to learn more about the world have sought out these old One Piece characters because of their knowledge.

UPDATED on April 30th, 2024, by Suzail Ahmad: One Piece is one of the few anime where age is just a number. There are old characters in the series who can easily fight against the youngsters. Aside from having immense physical strength, these characters also have valuable knowledge about things.

This alone makes them very important to the story. Over the course of the story, fans have seen many old characters who have proven that they are not to be trifled with. With that in mind, here are some of the oldest One Piece characters.

16 Tsuru

Age: 76

Tsuru joined the Marines many years prior to the current timeline. She is treated as a legend by the Marines because of her past achievements. Tsuru was feared by Doflamingo, who was one of the most evil characters in the series.

When it came to strength, Tsuru was not a pushover. She ate the Washu Washu no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allowed her to clean the malice from the hearts of criminals. As a Vice Admiral, Tsuru could also use Haki without any problems.

15 Rayleigh

Age: 78

Silvers Rayleigh was the right-hand man of the late Gol D. Roger. In fact, Roger’s first crew member was Rayleigh. The two were joined by many people, and ultimately they came to be known as the Roger Pirates.

Silvers Rayleigh is an exceptionally skilled fighter who could easily hold his own against an Admiral, which was a big achievement. He was also adept at using Haki, and he even passed his knowledge on to Luffy.

14 Garp

Age: 78

Monkey D. Garp is known as the Hero of the Marines. He was very young when he joined the organization, but it didn’t take him long to become popular. Once Garp attained the position of Vice Admiral, he started rejecting promotions. Garp remained a Vice Admiral because he did not want to work directly under the thumb of the Celestial Dragons.

Presently, Garp is 78 years old, which makes him one of the oldest active Marines. His age doesn’t seem to affect him at all, which shows how impressive he is as a fighter. Garp possesses all three types of Haki, and he can use them expertly. So, it’s hardly surprising that he was the only Marine who came close to catching Gol D. Roger.

13 Sengoku

Age: 79

Prior to the time skip, Sengoku was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines. Sengoku is one of the two Marines who are able to use all three types of Haki. His strength was acknowledged by Roger, who specifically mentioned him along with Garp as the only Marines who stood a chance against him.

He possesses the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a giant golden Buddha. Sengoku is presently 79 years old, making him one of the most experienced fighters in the series. He is wise and knowledgeable about many different things. He is also one of the few surviving people from the era of Gol D. Roger.

12 Hajrudin

Age: 81

Hajrudin is the captain of the New Giant Pirates and a member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. He debuted in the Dressrosa arc as a participant in the tournament taking place in the Corrida Colosseum. Hajrudin wanted to get his hands on the Mera Mera no Mi, which he believed would make him unstoppable.

Hajrudin is a giant, hailing from Elbaf, which means that he is physically stronger than most individuals. Like all the other members of his race, he is among the oldest One Piece characters.

11 Brook

Age: 90

Brook is the musician of the Straw Hat Pirates. Before joining the crew, Brook used to be a member of the Rumbar Pirates. He sailed with them until they were all killed by poisoning. Brook’s Yomi Yomi no Mi revived him again, and he remained on the ship.

Brook wandered the seas till he found Thriller Bark, where his shadow was stolen by Gecko Moria and used to revive Ryuma’s corpse. Brook tried to reclaim it, but he failed to beat Ryuma. Eventually, he was helped by the Straw Hat Pirates. At the time of his debut, Brook was 88 years old, and currently he is 90 years old.

10 San Juan Wolf

Age: 99

San Juan Wolf is one of the Ten Titan Captains of the Blackbeard Pirates. At some point, he was captured by the World Government and imprisoned on Level 6 of Impel Down. He remained there until Blackbeard gave him the opportunity to break out and join his crew.

San Juan Wolf possesses the Deka Deka no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to increase his size. He can become big enough to stand on the ocean floor, which makes him the tallest character in One Piece.

9 Saul

Age: 127

Jaguar D. Saul made his debut in Nico Robin’s flashback in the Enies Lobby arc. He used to be a Navy Vice-Admiral, but he left the organization after learning of their plans to obliterate Ohara. He was caught in a storm, and he washed up on the shores of Ohara, where he met Nico Robin. Saul had a major impact on Robin’s life, and it was due to his encouraging words that she found the will to survive all the hardships.

Saul was present during the Buster Call, and he was frozen by Aokiji. Naturally, he was presumed dead, but in the Egghead Island arc, it was revealed that Saul had managed to survive. Currently, Saul is hiding in Elbaf.

8 Kureha

Age: 141

Kureha is an elderly doctor who is also the adoptive mother of Chopper. She took him in after Hiriluk’s death and taught him all she knew about medicine. Despite being 141 years old, Kureha doesn’t seem to be affected by any physical problems.

In fact, as she has gotten older, her physical strength seems to have improved. Furthermore, it has increased her medical expertise, making her one of the most renowned doctors in the world. She is also knowledgeable about the Will of D, but only to some extent.

7 Oimo

Age: 153

Oimo and his friend, Kashii, were members of the Giant Warrior Pirates. After Dorry and Broggy started fighting among themselves, Oishi left for Elbaf with the other crew members. Several years later, Oishi and Kashii decided to find Dorry and Broggy.

The two friends were captured by the World Government and tricked into believing that their captains were captured. The World Government proposed freeing their captains in exchange for Oishi and Kashii serving them for 100 years. The two gullible giants didn’t know that they were being tricked until they met the Straw Hats.

6 Kashii

Age: 156

Kashii is the older of the two giants who were tasked with guarding the front gate of Enies Lobby. Like Oimo, Kashii was also a member of the Giant Warrior Pirates.

Kashii’s strength and resilience are far greater than a human’s. Along with Oimo, Kashii protected Enies Lobby from any intruders. After the Straw Hats successfully defeated CP9, he left for Elbaf along with his friend.

5 Morley

Age: 160

Morley is the commander of the West Army in the Revolutionary Army. She is a newkama and a giant, who possesses the Oshi Oshi no Mi. It is a Paramecia-type devil fruit that allows her to reshape the ground as if it were clay. Over a century ago, Morley was imprisoned inside Impel Down.

She was able to escape from the prison with the help of her devil fruit. The tunnels created by Morley were later used by Ivankov and came to be known as the Newkama Land. In addition to her devil fruit, Morley is also able to use both Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki, which makes her a fearsome opponent.

4 Dorry and Broggy

Age: 160

Dorry and Broggy were introduced in the Little Garden arc. They were the co-captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, but they left their positions because of a squabble. Both the giants sport a bounty of 100 million berries each, which does not do justice to their strength.

As giants, they are easily capable of killing dinosaurs and other huge monsters. A normal human does not stand a chance against them. Dorry and Broggy are both extremely honorable, but sometimes this can be used against them by their opponents.

3 Hatcha

Age: 188

Along with the other Numbers, Hatcha was taken to Punk Hazard by scientists who wanted to recreate ancient giants. The experiment was deemed a failure, but luckily, Hatcha and the other Numbers were recruited by Kaido.

Hatcha is extremely tall and blessed with a great deal of strength. During the raid on Onigashima, Hatcha was seen lifting another Number with relative ease. His weapon of choice is a giant-spiked club, and he can swing it easily.

2 Jarul

Age: 408

Years prior to the story, Jarul used to be a pirate. He co-captained the Giant Warrior Pirates along with his brother, Jorul. Due to his adventures as a buccaneer, Jarul earned a great deal of respect among the giants of Elbaf.

He was a lucky survivor of Charlotte Linlin’s rampage on Elbaf, but his brother was not so lucky. Seeing the horrors committed by Linlin, Jarul ordered Mother Carmel to take away the young girl from the island.

1 Zunesha

Age: 1000+

Zunesha is the oldest character in One Piece by quite a margin. While it might be old, Zunesha is absolutely massive, and it can destroy an entire fleet of ships with a swing of its trunk. Around 800 years ago, it used to be affiliated with Joy Boy. Currently, it is unknown how the two were connected, but it will be revealed in the future. According to Momonosuke, Zunesha is forced to carry the Mokomo Dukedom on its back because of a transgression that it committed in the past.

As the oldest character, Zunesha is aware of all the mysteries of the world. When Luffy was knocked out by Kaido, Zunesha told Momonosuke that Joy Boy had returned, which further cemented his connection with the mysterious figure. Given that he’s been around for such a long time, Zunesha will play an important role in the future.
