Norwegians are more skeptical of climate change than other countries

Despite the fact that temperatures are rising, and scientists all over the world agree that this is man-made, there are many Norwegians who do not want to say they completely agree.

Among the six countries in the survey, Norway was the country where the fewest believed climate change was mainly caused by us humans.

The figures show that as much as each fourth Norwegian believes that global warming is primarily natural.

Climate researcher at NTNU, Helene Muri, says that she finds it sad that so many people think this.

– There is no doubt that climate change is man-made. The researchers have done a good job, but people decide for themselves what they believe. We have hard facts to hit the table with, says Muri to TV 2.

FRP voters at the top

The article states that more than half of those who vote for the Progressive Party do not believe that humans are entirely to blame for climate change.

The party with the second most climate-skeptic voters is the Center Party, followed by the Conservative Party and Christian People’s Party.

The figures also show that those who believe that climate change is primarily natural are often born before 1990.

There are also more people in sparsely populated areas than in big cities who believe that climate change is primarily natural.

The figures also show that those with higher education are more likely to believe that climate change is a result of human activity than those without higher education.

The demographics do not surprise Muri. When she tells people about her job, there is a certain type of person who reacts negatively.

– They are mostly retired men from the petroleum industry, and people without higher education.

The arguments of the climate skeptics

Faktisk.no together with OsloMet have gone through articles in Norwegian media, including Derimot.no and Document.no, to see what are the arguments for climate change being a natural cause.

In these articles, it must have been argued that the connection between climate and CO₂ has never been proven. Thus, we humans cannot be responsible, according to the articles.

In addition, the arguments must have pointed out that an increased proportion of CO₂ is good for the planet, and that this will contribute to a greener globe, as this is nourishment for the plants.

In addition to these, the research article states that several arguments should be that the sun controls the climate, that we are heading into a new mini-ice age, and that the climate has always changed.

Muri says that these arguments do not measure up.

– There are natural variations in climate, but we see that many of these are both amplified and occur more often as a result of changes in the climate.
