Nintendo Switch 2 Hardware Shipments Have Leaked Additional System Specs

Highlights

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to have RAM comparable to the Xbox Series S in Docked mode, according to alleged shipping information.
  • The latest rumor claims DLSS may bridge the gap between the Switch 2 and other consoles.
  • Switch 2’s alleged RAM specs are slower than the PS5 but boasts more than the Xbox Series S. ARM processor clock speeds are currently unknown.

According to some rumors about the next Nintendo console, the Switch successor could include RAM that puts it within range of the Xbox Series S while in Docked mode, but with a few differences between the systems. The same rumors also state that, while the Switch 2’s specs remain unconfirmed by Nintendo, the system could use DLSS to bridge the gap between other current consoles.

The rumors are the latest amid a swirl of speculation surrounding Nintendo’s plans. While all rumors are to be taken with a grain of salt, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed on social media on May 6 that the Switch’s successor would be revealed by the end of the current fiscal year. This means that the name of the next Nintendo console will be made public no later than March 31, 2025. Furukawa also confirmed that the next Nintendo Direct will air in June 2024, focusing on Switch titles scheduled to launch in the fall and winter of 2024, but that the Switch 2 would not be mentioned during the broadcast.

According to Twitter users Stealth40k and Neoxon619, some hardware shipment information has appeared on Famiboards that pit the Switch 2’s alleged specifications against the Xbox Series S and the PS4. According to the information gathered by Stealth40k and Neoxon619, the Switch 2 in Handheld mode has processing power similar to a PS4 with Nvidia’s DLSS turned off, but putting it in Docked Mode cranks it closer to an Xbox Series S in power before DLSS is activated.

The Switch 2’s alleged RAM specs may have slower speeds than the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, but it boasts more than the 10 GB available on the Xbox Series S. By comparison, the PS5 and Xbox Series X have 16 GB of GDDR6 SDRAM, with bandwidth speeds capping at 448 GB per second on the PS5. However, Neoxon619 clarified that the clock speeds of the Switch 2’s ARM-based processor remained unknown at the time of writing. While the company has confirmed some Switch 2 features, it remains to be seen what the precise technical features will be.

With the Switch quickly on its way to becoming the top-selling console of all time, the Switch 2’s technical specs remain a point of speculation. Only time will tell when Nintendo will pull back the curtain on its efforts.
