Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft with Jacoby Brissett as the top option on their depth chart, surely the New England Patriots must select a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick, right?

According to the Patriots’ director of scouting Eliot Wolf, the Patriots are not locked in on any specific QB prospect and are actually still interested in listening to trade offers for their top draft pick.

Speaking Thursday, Wolf noted that the Patriots are “open for business” in regards to trading the third pick.

“We’re open to anything. Moving up, moving down. We’re open for business in the first round and every round.”

This essentially means the Patriots aren’t in love with the top two QB prospects between Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, or possibly that New England is getting a strong sense that the player they want will be selected by Washington at No. 2. If so, trading down may be the Patriots’ best option, especially if they can receive a strong trade offer from another team desperate to add their new potential franchise QB.

It’s also possible the Patriots hold a lesser prospect such as J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr., or even Bo Nix in higher regard, or at least view them as similarly talented players to the prospects expected to be drafted in the top three.

Instead of taking the quality approach, the Patriots may prefer to opt for quantity.

“The more picks we have, the better.”

The Patriots currently have a total of eight draft selections this year, but if Wolf isn’t bluffing, they could prefer having even more, even if that means missing out on one of the top-three QB prospects.
