Now integrated into the Challenge Run in Brussels, this event is experiencing new dynamism which will allow it to cross the threshold of a thousand participants this year to establish itself as an essential part of the regional calendar but also beyond.
“Created ten years ago, it was a small race at the start which attracted around a hundred participants. Over the years, we have seen the event grow and today, we should be able to pass the 1,000 runners mark. It’s great to see the event grow to such a size”welcomes Miguel Delacroix, Alderman of Sports of Rhode-Saint-Genèse.
An alderman who is not just there to make up the numbers on race day since he has taken part in all the editions. “I run a lot. I take part in quite a few races in the region, the 20 km of Brussels too and it is quite natural that I take the start of the Run-Saint-Genèse every year.”
“We especially discover the unbuilt part of the town, in the fields and woods.”
The opportunity to discover an atypical route.
“We travel through some districts of Rhode-Saint-Genèse but above all we discover the unbuilt part of the town, in the fields and woods, between Rhode-Saint-Genèse and Waterloo. A little-known part of the locals that many discover during the race.”
Running is a sport that Miguel Delacroix has practiced for many years.
“It is a democratic sport, which easily brings people together. A practical sport for which you are not dependent on the rental of a field or the presence of partners. A sport that allows you to measure your effort according to your fitness level of the day. It's an easy way to stay in shape. And what’s more, in Rhode-Saint-Genèse, we are lucky to be next to one of the largest forests in Belgium.”
