Michaël Lallemand returns to RFC Liège with Dender: “I am not surprised to see the team in this position”

Michaël, how is this season going?

“Pretty good. We are three points behind the leaders (Editor’s note: Zulte Waregem and Beerschot) and our team is doing well. We have grown a lot compared to last season, with more professionalism in the club. We feel it on the ground.”

And you, personally?

“I feel quite good, even if I currently have a little discomfort in my hamstrings which could prevent me from playing against Liège, but we will see if we take the risk or not. So far, I have scored three goals and an assist, which is quite satisfactory given my playing time which has been reduced compared to last season since there is more competition.”

This Friday, you will find RFC Liège, your former club. You are happy ?

“Seeing Liège evolve in D1B makes me very happy. In addition, the team is performing well. We see that the group knows each other well and that there is complementarity between the players. Given the quality of the group, I am not surprised to find them in this position.”

“In Liège, I played with the best group.”

What do you remember about number 4?

“That this is the best group with which I have been able to evolve in my career. Humanly, he was incredible and very united. We still feel it today since it hasn’t changed that much.”

The last season, we felt more liberated, more smiling… What had changed?

“Getting through the Covid period has not been easy. We were coming off a complicated season, but afterwards I started to score and I felt much better.”

Was the pair you formed with Jérémy Perbet the best?

“Even today we both talk about it. Many people put us in competition, but we complemented each other. We got along very well on and off the pitch.”

Leaving Liège for Dender wasn’t too complicated?

“Leaving a club where you feel good is never easy, especially after a big season. But I'm happy here. I believe I made the right choice at the right time to return to the professional world. I had wonderful times in Liège and I don't have the slightest resentment. Besides, I follow the results every week and, when possible, I watch the matches.”

What is the biggest difference between the two clubs?

“Spontaneously, I would say the supporters. In Liège, it’s something apart. This atmosphere is sometimes missing, because it's a boost. On the other hand, in Dender, the infrastructure is better, but I am sure that Liège will progress at this level as well.”

What can we wish you?

“Personally, I hope to play as many decisive matches as possible and be spared from injuries. We will do our best to finish as high as possible, but the playoffs are the minimum to achieve…”
