Mechelen beats Oud-Heverlee Louvain and returns to success in Europe Playoffs

After a great collective action, Siebe Schrijvers received the ball at the edge of the area and tried his luck from afar. Fortunately for Mechelen, his imbalance forced the ball to deviate from its trajectory (19th).

At the start of the second half, Mechelen hit very hard. Rob Schoofs was perfectly served at the entrance to the Leuven rectangle. The latter fired a powerful shot which surprised Tobe Leysen from 25 meters with a returning post (47th, 1-0).

KaVé made the break shortly before the hour mark following an error from Franco Russo who found a hole in his defensive cover. Norman Bassette took the opportunity to go towards the cages and place a ball between the legs of Leysen (58th, 2-0).

Mechelen had the opportunity to take the lead in the final minutes on a penalty from Kerim Mrabti but the OHL goalkeeper was solid in stopping the attempt (87th). In the process, referee Bram Van Driessche, with the help of VAR, asked to take the penalty again. A second chance converted by Mbrati (90th + 2, 3-0).

Later this Saturday, Standard will host Sint-Truiden with a view to securing its first victory in these Europe Playoffs (6:15 p.m.) and La Gantoise, solid leader, will host Westerlo (8:45 p.m.).
