Laurens Vanthoor arrives as leader of the WEC at Imola: “It’s an old-fashioned track where you will have to take risks”

We are not in F1 where we can predict every weekend that a Red Bull will be in front.

”We tested in Spa and here sinceexplains the driver of the N°6 Porsche 963 shared with Kevin Estre and André Lotterer. I like this old school layout where we won't talk about respecting the limits of the track. When you come out here, it's the gravel trap or the rail. In the rain, you have to take risks to go fast with our powerful Hypercars. On a narrow track, traffic management will play a big role. It won’t be easy to overtake the GT3s that aren’t really slower than us in the tight corners.”

Also at the 24 Hours of Spa

Not sure that, like in the Emirates, we will find the Porsches at the top of the hierarchy: “We are not in F1 where we can always predict that Red Bull will be in front. Here it changes from one weekend and from one circuit to another. I don’t really know where we are going to be but it will clearly be more complicated than at Losail.”

In Qatar, Laurens Vanthoor became the first Belgian to win at the top of endurance racing since Thierry Boutsen almost thirty years ago.

The ambitions are therefore more measured: “Our first goal was to win a race. It's already done, continues the eldest Vanthoor who will also be seen competing for victory at the 24 Hours of Spa in a Porsche GT3 at the end of June. Now the priority is to try to win Le Mans. It is too early to think about the championship even if we are logically one of the favorites. We will have to be consistent, regularly aim for the top 5. Now, if there is an opportunity to play for the podium, we will seize it but I do not believe that we will be the fastest in Italy.”
