Hein Vanhaezebrouck returned to Ghent in December 2020. During his second tenure at the head of the Buffalos, HVH won the Belgian Cup in 2022. But relations are tense between Hein Vanhaezebrouck and the management of the club, recently taken over by the entrepreneur Sam Baro.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck had already been on the Ghent bench between 2014 and 2017. He then led the Buffalos to their first, and only, Belgian championship title in 2015, followed by qualification for the round of 16 of the Champions League the next year.
