Fallout Shelter can be a punishing game. Here’s a look at some mistakes that players make which can ruin their experience.

The Fallout Shelter Vault Rating System, Explained

According to the game’s menu, Vault Ratings are awarded every day that the player plays the game. A vault’s rating is based on the happiness of all the Dwellers in the Vault combined. Players will receive a reward each day based on that happiness, meaning the happier the Dwellers are, the better the reward will be. Higher ranks will obtain more CAPS when they obtain their reward for the day. At the end of the week, players will obtain a Lunchbox for their hard work at keeping their Vault up and running.

How to Increase Vault Rating

Increasing a Vault’s rating comes down to increasing the Vault Dwellers’ happiness within the Vault. In order to tell if a Vault Dweller is happy, all the player needs to do is select them and check the facial expression and percentage that can be found in the top right-hand corner of the Dweller’s screen. A green face means they’re happy, a yellow face means they are neutral, and a red face means they are sad. Thankfully, increasing the happiness of these Dwellers isn’t too difficult to do as long as players are willing to listen to them. Here’s a list of everything that can be done to increase a Dweller’s happiness.

  • Assign the Dwellers jobs that they love (look for the highest stat and assign them a job that fits that).
  • Ensure that all Dwellers always have full health while they are in the Vault.
  • If any Dweller has radiation, be sure to use a RadAway and heal them of that radiation as soon as possible.
  • Zoom in on any unhappy Dwellers; they will speak about why they are unhappy, giving players the ability to fix the issue.
  • Always have enough power, food, and water for Dwellers. If there isn’t enough, Dwellers will quickly lose happiness.
  • If all else fails, send two Dwellers to the Living Quarters. While there, they will have a baby and will both reach 100% happiness.
  • There may also be some mods that can help with tracking and increasing happiness, so always check to see if new ones have been added.
