How To Get Bronze And Unlock The Fishing Rod

Hades 2, Supergiant Games’ highly anticipated sequel, has several gameplay features that are new to the franchise. One of these new features has you chasing materials in the Underworld and elsewhere, from Psyche to Fate Fabric. Some resources appear as requirements to unlock important tools and upgrades early on, which can lead to a few head scratches at first.

Perhaps the biggest example you’ll encounter during your first few dozen runs is bronze. If you have access to the silver tools, it’s the one requirement that immediately stands out. If you’re wondering how to get bronze in Hades 2, which is needed to unlock the fishing rod, here’s what you need to know.

How to get bronze in Hades 2

If you’re wondering how to get bronze in Hades 2, the answer lies in the City of Ephyra. In short, you won’t find bronze in the Underworld, but on the surface instead.

To get to the surface, you first need to unlock the ward at the Crossroads. Once that’s settled, you’ll have to find a way to survive on the surface, which is achieved by lifting Melinoë’s family curse so she can actually navigate Ephyra and beyond.

After you’re set with these tasks, make sure to equip the Crescent Pickaxe before starting a run on the surface. Then, as you’re exploring Ephyra, you’ll stumble upon piles of discarded bronze armor. You know what to do: hit them with the pickaxe during or after a fight to obtain bronze.

Some characters suggest that you can make a run for it and grab resources even with the curse, but at least in my experience, I wasn’t able to interact with the armor piles, only Moss on the ground. If you’re wondering how useful bronze is, the next section should help.

Hades 2 bronze uses

By far the most notable use of bronze in Hades 2 is unlocking the Fishing Rod. This tool is back after the first game, and at least in the current Early Access state, it works exactly the same—it’s a fishing minigame in which you can earn artifacts. Getting your hands on it, however, takes some extra effort.

To unlock the Fishing Rod in Hades 2, you’ll need x2 Fate Fabric and x1 bronze. This means that you won’t be able to make use of fishing spots until you’ve reached the surface and lifted the curse to navigate it without penalty.

Then, bronze is also used to unlock the Argent Skull, which is currently the fifth weapon for Melinoë. You’ll need x1 bronze, as well as x2 glassrock, a material found in the Mourning Fields. It’s quite an interesting weapon, but if you ask me, I’d prioritize the Fishing Rod just so you can start building a fish collection. Lastly, once you get access to Aspects of Night and Darkness, there are a few of them that require bronze, so make sure to always make a quick stop at the nearest armor pile in Ephyra.
