How to Farm Wood in Fallout 76

Wood is a primary resource in Fallout 76, acquired primarily through foraging and scrapping. Players can directly interact with sticks or scraps to collect them, or they can dismantle pieces of furniture—or any wooden item—to obtain Wood. (High-level players can automate the Wood farming process with Extractors.)

In Fallout 76, Wood ranks among the most vital resources, alongside Copper. It serves various purposes in constructing structures, crafting tools and weapons, and facilitating numerous customizations. However, there’s a catch: unlike in games such as RUST, players cannot chop down trees to obtain Wood directly in Fallout 76. As a result, they must employ creative methods to gather it. Fortunately, there are several ways to farm Wood in Fallout 76. The following are some examples.

To farm Wood, players can loot logging camps, grab fallen tree branches, or scrap wooden junk items. In Fallout 76, players can’t cut down trees for wood. They must either gather it from log piles scattered around the map or extract it from wooden items.

Loot Logging Camps

Players can visit the following locations to farm Wood:

  • Sylvie & Sons Logging Camp
  • Prickett’s Fort
  • West Virginia Lumber Corporation
  • Middle Mountain Cabins
  • Gilman Lumber Mill
  • The Thorn
  • Helvetia

These areas have multiple piles of Wood and Firewood that together could grant up to 2,500 Wood Scraps. While in these locations, players should spam the action button around the Wood piles to gather as many scraps as possible. Also, they can talk to the lumberjacks for an extra Bulk Wood or two.

Gather Wood from Fallen Trees

The most straightforward way of farming Wood in Fallout 76 is by gathering it from fallen or dead trees. To do so, players will need to get close to a tree trunk, branch, or log on the ground and press the action button to grab it.

Here are some of the best locations for collecting Wood:

  • The forest southwest of Vault 76.
  • Graninger Farm.
  • Around Watoga (southeast of the map).

Scrap Wooden Junk Items

Another way to get wood in Fallout 76 is to go to a Tinker’s Workbench, open the Scrap Items menu, choose wooden objects, and extract their Wood. Things like acoustic guitars, blacksmith hammers, ski boards, and picture frames are good resources for Wood scrapping.

Best Workshops for Farming Wood Scraps

Fallout 76 Dolly Sods Campground

In terms of extractable resources, the Dolly Sods Campground is the best Wood Scraps farming workshop. Here, players can set up to three Wood Extractors, yielding approximately 75 Wood Scraps per hour.

The complete list of best workshops for Wood farming:

  • Dolly Sods Campground (Three Wood Resources)
  • Debney Homestead (One Wood Resource)
  • George Junkyard (One Wood Resource)
  • Lakeside Cabins (One Wood Resource)
  • Monongah Power Plant Yard (One Wood Resource)
  • Thunder Mountain Power Plant Yard (One Wood Resource)

Look for a large pile of Wood in the workshops. This is where the Wood Extractor must be placed to generate scraps.

How to Make the Most of Wood Farming in Fallout 76

There are two methods for exploiting Wood farming: Server-hopping and perk-matching. With the first method, server-hopping, players jump between different worlds to loot the same areas again and again. With the second one, perk-matching, they choose a perk card that increases their chance of looting Wood Scraps.

Sever-Hop to Re-Loot Wood Workshops

After looting logging camps, players can quit the game to the main menu and log into another world server. This will trigger the Wood piles to respawn and allow for another gathering session.

Fallout 76 Perk Cards

With the Woodchucker perk card, players collect twice as much when harvesting Wood. Having it on means they get four Wood Scraps for each pair they gather.

How to Buy Wood in Fallout 76

If farming Wood doesn’t sound feasible, players can also purchase it from the sellers. Vendors at Charleston, Flatwood, and Morgantown offer Bulk Wood for a fair price, which can then be scrapped into Wood pieces on a Tinker’s Workbench.

How to Complete the Collect Wood Challenge

There’s a Daily Challenge in Fallout 76 that tasks players with gathering Wood 50 times. It’s important not to confuse this with simply collecting 50 individual pieces of Wood, as the challenge refers to the act of gathering Wood, whether it’s a pile or a single scrap.

To fulfill the “Collect Wood Challenge,” players can loot the logs found in Helvetia and the Sylvie & Sons Logging Camp. These locations offer ample Wood Piles for players to gather and complete their daily objectives.
