He climbed Mont-Blanc in the Borinage: 103 ascents of a slag heap and 4,809 meters of D+ for Quentin Carpentier

A challenge that began at 8 a.m. and ended 10:04 hours later, after 60.8 kilometers. That is, on average, 79 meters of positive altitude difference per kilometer.

“I started running six years ago and trail running 18 months ago”, Quentin Carpentier tells us after his challenge. “I'm preparing for the Annecy Maxi-Race (90 km at the end of May) and I decided to climb a height difference equivalent to Mont-Blanc. But since we don’t have that near us, I turned to a slag heap…”

Quentin Carpentier chose the Sept slag heap, in Hornu, which he can see from his home. He took it throughout the day via the three paths that allow you to reach its summit. Throughout his effort, he was accompanied by friends to whom he had spoken about his project.

We tested the trails of the Chimay Trail, a surprising and varied route in a corner of Belgium that deserves to be discovered while running

”I have never been alone. It’s nice to have been supported like this”, he said. “I also wanted to show that there is a way to achieve positive elevation gain in Belgium, outside of the Ardennes. To my knowledge, such an ascent is a record in the Borinage.”
