Highlights

  • Fans of Hades 2 express mixed feelings about Chaos’ redesign, with some finding the new, more feminine look beautiful.
  • Chaos’ appearance in Hades 2 may have changed due to encounters with Titans, but they still remain genderless.
  • Hades 2 is expected to be in early access for a while, giving Supergiant Games time to refine character designs and new content.

Following the early access release of Hades 2, fans have mixed feelings about Chaos’ redesign. Developer Supergiant Games surprised fans after shadow-dropping Hades 2, even surpassing a major player milestone in less than 24 hours. Now, more players are experiencing Melinoe’s adventure and meeting new characters, albeit still unfinished.

Just like the first Hades game, Melinoe can visit Chaos’ chambers to receive Boons that can help in her battles. Based on Hades 2 screenshots, Chaos still has their pale white skin, bat-like wings and holds the melted human head and fetus that’s attached to their body, but they look more feminine now compared to their androgynous appearance in the previous game.

Hades 2 Passes Major Player Milestone in Less Than 24 Hours

Less than 24 hours after releasing into early access, Hades 2 has already surpassed a major player milestone set by its predecessor.

Reddit user Sea_Tune7346 recently shared a screenshot of Chaos, along with Hera and Hades, from Hades 2 early access. Some fans said they didn’t like Chaos’ redesign, noting that they looked too “human” in Hades 2. Another emphasized that Chaos should be genderless, and that their new design, which showed them sporting a high Megaera-like ponytail and a white blazer, made them look too feminine. At the other end of the discussion, a number of Hades 2 fans thought this new version of Chaos looked beautiful.

Why Does Chaos Look Different in Hades 2?

Meanwhile, some theorized that Chaos might have changed their appearance because of an encounter with the Titans. Although it was previously implied that Titans like Chronos might show up in Hades 2, there’s no confirmation yet on whether Chaos fought any of them before the events of the game. Of course, it’s highly likely that Supergiant Games simply improved Chaos’ design, just like how they altered the appearances of returning characters, like the Olympian Gods and Hypnos.

In Greek mythology, Chaos doesn’t have a physical form, so the first Hades game was accurate in portraying them as a primordial god with androgynous features, made more terrifying with melted heads surrounding their torso. While it’s true that Hades 2‘s Chaos looks more feminine, they can still be genderless and lacking a permanent physical form. This could be proof that Chaos could change their physical form whenever they choose, especially if they’re often interacting with beings like Melinoe and Zagreus.

Hades 2 is expected to be in early access until sometime next year, which gives Supergiant Games a lot of time to build new areas, characters, and weapons. This also gives the developer time to change and refine stuff before the full release, which might include character designs.
