God of War Ragnarok PC Port Announcement Is Imminent, Leaker Claims

Highlights

  • The God of War Ragnarok PC port announcement is reportedly imminent.
  • The PC version of the 2022 game is predicted to be officially confirmed sometime in May 2024.
  • Sony may be planning to hold back this confirmation until the Ghost of Tsushima PC port releases on May 16, to avoid overshadowing it.

The God of War Ragnarok PC port announcement is imminent, a reliable leaker has said. Their information indicates that God of War Ragnarok could mark an unprecedentedly short gap between the release of a first-party Sony game and its PC port.

Since starting its multi-platform publishing push in 2020, Sony has generally waited at least two years before bringing its new AAA releases from PlayStation to PC. The fastest one to make that jump so far was Days Gone, which was released for the PS4 in April 2019 before finding itself on Steam come May 2021.

God of War Ragnarok’s PC port has yet to be confirmed, but it is more than likely going to happen, and it could very well be this year.

God of War Ragnarok PC Port Announcement Predicted to Happen in May 2024

God of War Ragnarok may set a new record in this respect, with Dealabs’ Billbil-kun reporting that the PC port of Santa Monica Studio’s critically acclaimed action adventure is coming “soon.” Specifically, the insider is predicting that its announcement will happen sometime in May 2024. Given that Sony ordinarily confirms PlayStation PC ports a few months ahead of their eventual release, God of WarRagnarok may end up debuting on Steam much sooner than its second anniversary in November 2024.

This possibility dovetails with a recent statement from Sony President, COO, and CFO Hiroki Totoki, who said in February that PlayStation is going to get more “aggressive” with first-party PC releases moving forward. That strategic shift is already evident in the day-one PC launch of Helldivers 2, which isn’t a first-party title but was nonetheless published by Sony. The other way in which the company could double down on its multi-platform bet would be to start porting PlayStation console exclusives to PC at an even quicker pace. If the God of War Ragnarok PC port announcement is indeed imminent, that may already be happening.

In the meantime, Sony’s next big PC release, Ghost of Tsushima, is scheduled to reach Steam next Thursday, May 16. The company may want to wait to confirm the PC version of God of War Ragnarok until after that launch to avoid overshadowing Sucker Punch Productions’ celebrated open-world action adventure. And while it’s advisable to take all leaks of this sort with a degree of skepticism, the source of this claim is as reliable as they come, with Billbil-kun also being the one to have broken the news of the recently released Horizon Forbidden West PC port, among many other releases.

Following God of War Ragnarok‘s purported Steam debut, Sony would have just a few more current-generation titles to port to PC. That list includes Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and the Demon’s Souls remake. But the company also has a wealth of older titles to tap into, most notably Bloodborne, which many fans have been requesting to be brought to modern platforms for years.
