Garbiñe Muguruza had not played since January 2023 when she was eliminated in the first round of the Lyon tournament following an elimination at the Australian Open by Elise Mertens.
Muguruza won Roland-Garros in 2016 by beating Serena Williams in the final and Wimbledon the following year by dismissing Venus Williams in the final, winning the Masters in 2021. Finalist at the Australian Open in 2020, she put an end to 12 years of professional career.
