Fallout 4 PS Plus Collection Issues Resolved

Highlights

  • The Fallout 4 next-gen upgrade is now available for the PS Plus Collection version of the RPG.
  • PS5 owners who claimed the game via the now-discontinued bundle found themselves unable to access the next-gen update for the first few days following its release.

PlayStation 5 owners who obtained Fallout 4 via the PS Plus Collection can now finally download the game’s next-gen update. The long-awaited Fallout 4 patch initially rolled out on April 25, promptly sowing confusion among some PlayStation users who found themselves unable to access it.

The now-defunct PS Plus Collection was a digital bundle of 20 standout PS4 games that Sony released alongside the PS5 in November 2020. Fallout 4 was part of the package, together with the likes of God of War, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, and The Last of Us Remastered. Sony discontinued the digital offering in May 2023.

Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Should Now Be Available to All PS5 Players

And while that’s precisely how many PS5 owners found themselves with a digital copy of the post-apocalyptic RPG, the Fallout 4 next-gen upgrade ended up circumventing that group of past and present PS Plus users, at least initially. This wasn’t Bethesda’s intention, however, with the developer confirming as much in a recent social media update. Taking to Twitter on April 30, the studio said that the next-gen upgrade should now be available to all PS5 users, including those who obtained the game via the discontinued PS Plus Collection.

While some fans thanked the developer for resolving the issue, others bemoaned the company’s reaction time. Such frustrations appear largely rooted in the fact that a number of PS5 players have allegedly decided to needlessly buy the game during this five-day period of uncertainty.

The newly resolved licensing issue also caused complications for PS5 users who are both subscribed to PS Plus Extra or Premium and have previously claimed the PS Plus Collection version of the game. That demographic struggled to access the Fallout 4 next-gen update because the claimed version of the RPG wasn’t compatible with the patch, while also preventing them from accessing the PS Plus Extra/Premium one. However, this particular issue was circumventable by navigating to the RPG’s PS Store page, clicking the triple dot icon next to the Wishlist button, and simply switching to a different game version.

The Fallout 4 next-gen upgrade also caused some confusion among the Xbox crowd in late April, with numerous players reporting that the game’s Quality mode wasn’t working. But those claims were all based on the fact that disabling the Performance mode toggle would still have the game run above 30 frames per second, which Bethesda later clarified was a feature and not a bug of the Xbox Series X version of Fallout 4.
