Elden Ring May Have First Teased Its DLC Over 2 Years Ago

While it could just be a coincidence, it seems as though FromSoftware may have teased the Elden Ring DLC over 2 years ago.

Highlights

  • FromSoftware may have referenced the Elden Ring DLC in an old tweet.
  • The tweet may have been a deliberate nod to the DLC or simply a coincidence, but regardless fans are eager for new content.
  • The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is set to be released on June 21, over two years after the base game was first released.

Elden Ring fans have discovered an old tweet on the game’s official Twitter page that seemingly references the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. With FromSoftware’s reputation for making high-quality expansions for many of its games, many fans assumed an Elden Ring DLC was on the way before it was even announced. Now that the Elden Ring DLC has been properly revealed, hype for the expansion is at an all-time high.

Longtime Elden Ring fans are gearing up for their return to the Lands Between. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release date is set for June 21, well over two years after the base game dropped. Since Elden Ring fans had to wait such a long time to get their hands on the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, some may be surprised to see that FromSoftware was potentially planting the seeds for it a mere two weeks after its original launch.

Elden Ring Player Spots Neat Real-World Reference on a Shield

An Elden Ring player discovers that a symbol featured in one of the critically acclaimed RPG’s shields has a real-life counterpart.

Reddit user Telephone_Express noticed an Elden Ring tweet from March 11, 2022 that reads: “You are the hope of the Golden Order, Tarnished. Your choices will shape the future of all who dwell in the shadow of the Erdtree.” The tweet is accompanied by a video showing off various Elden Ring builds, cycling through some of the different weapons and armor that players can equip on their adventures. While no one paid the tweet much attention back when it was first sent out in March 2022, the fact that it says “the shadow of the Erdtree” has drummed up some interest.

Old Elden Ring Tweet Could Include Shadow of the Erdtree Reference

It’s entirely possible that FromSoftware had the Elden Ring DLC planned out well in advance and was always going to call it Shadow of the Erdtree, which would potentially make this tweet an intentional nod to the expansion. The other explanation is that this is merely a coincidence and the tweet was made without any knowledge about what the Elden Ring DLC would be called.

Once the Elden Ring DLC launches on June 21, fans will be free to explore it and search for some more potential connections between it and the game’s early days. It’s possible that areas or characters in the base Elden Ring game will be given some fresh lore or context through the DLC, so it will definitely be interesting to see what all is in store. There will be plenty of new Elden Ring enemies, locations, and characters to interact with in the DLC as well, so fans should be kept plenty busy come June 21.
