Despite two punctures in the last 70 kilometers, Arnaud De Lie wins the Tro Bro Léon (VIDEO)

The Tro Bro Leon takes unpaved sectors of earth or stone, the “ribinoubli” in Breton. These constituted 34.6 kilometers of the total route of the 40th edition, divided into 29 sectors. A breakaway of seven riders formed after around thirty kilometers.

Arnaud De Lie suffered a first puncture 70 kilometers from the finish. The favorite of the day returned to the peloton 30 kilometers further and even launched an attack, but he punctured again 30 kilometers from the finish.

20 kilometers from the end, the South African Morné Van Niekerk (St Michel-Mavic-Auber93), survivor of the breakaway, led the race. He was 15 seconds ahead of a group of 17 riders, while the De Lie group was one minute behind. The Lotto Dstny brought their leader back to the lead, while Van Niekerk made his last stand.

De Lie attacked in the penultimate sector, but his group of three was eventually joined by six other riders. In the final sprint, the Taureau de Lescheret showed himself imperial to achieve the 21st victory of his career, the second this season after the Famenne Ardenne Classic a week ago.

Arnaud De Lie concludes a Breton weekend in fine style, after taking 3rd place in the Grand Prix du Morbihan on Saturday, behind the French Cosnefroy and Zingle. He succeeds the Tro Bro Leon winners from the Italian Giacomo Nizzolo, who beat him in 2023.
