Demi Vollering wins solo and wins her first Vuelta Femenina

In the general classification, Demi Vollering won with 1:49 ahead of Markus, who stole 2nd place from Elisa Longo Borghini, 3rd at 2:00. Vollering succeeds her compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten, winner of the last three editions of the Women's Vuelta, on the winners of the event. These are the 30th and 31st victories of Demi Vollering's career, who lost 9 seconds behind Van Vleuten last year.

Several riders tried to liven up the start of the short stage, but the candidates for the general classification and the stage victory generally kept the breakaways under control. A group of 13 took a one-minute lead after around twenty kilometers, but the breakaway suffered from the first of the day's two climbs, the Puerto de la Morcuera (13.2 km at 6.4%).

A regrouping took place and a platoon reduced to around twenty units formed at the head. The Dutchwoman Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) attempted a final attack, in vain, while the final duel began at the foot of Puerto de Cotos (12.4 km at 4.9%). Expected, Demi Vollering justified her status by launching her attack 6 kilometers from the summit.

The Dutchwoman took off to win with a 29-second gap on Muzic, while Longo Borghini failed to catch the chasing group. The Italian gave up 2nd place overall at the last minute to Riejanne Markus.
