Cordon reduced after bomb squad called to village

Hundreds of people have been allowed back into their homes after Army bomb experts was called to a village.

A 100m (328ft) police cordon led to evacuations when “suspicious items” were found in a house in Brierley Road, Grimethorpe, on Wednesday morning.

About 130 homes in an exclusion zone were affected, with the zone reduced to 60m (197ft) late on Wednesday. That has since been reduced to three homes.

Two people arrested under the Firearms Act remain in police custody.
