The best of the rest is Fernando Alonso, brilliant 3rd in his Aston Martin. The Spaniard conceded 0.488 on Verstappen. The two McLarens follow with Lando Norris ahead of Oscar Piastri.
The Ferraris had to be content with 6th and 7th places. Charles Leclerc was ahead of Carlos Sainz, the latter having had a big scare when he made a mistake in Q2. The Spaniard hit the wall but miraculously managed to restart with too much damage to then qualify in Q3 and continue his effort. Phew!
George Russell is 8th on the only Mercedes in Q3, Lewis Hamilton having been knocked out in Q1! The seven-time world champion will start a distant 18th on Sunday. The Top 10 is completed by Nico Hülkenberg (Haas) and Valtteri Bottas (Sauber).
The start of the Chinese GP will take place this Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Belgian time.
