House Of The Dragon: 10 Characters That May Be Introduced In Season 2

Plenty of characters who appear in the books have yet to make their entrance in the House of the Dragon TV show.

Even though there are even more characters to come in Season 2, not all parts in Season 1 received their deserved amount of screen time. With many ongoing narratives, multiple death scenes, and diverse growing conflicts, there are more than a few personas that will make a triumphant return in the upcoming season. Yet, out of the show’s immense ensemble of characters, there are a few that deserve to have more of their story told based on how the show has unraveled thus far.

10 Laenor Velaryon

Good-Hearted, Velaryon Heir, And Targaryen Blood

Laenor prior to his "Death" in Episode 7 in House of the Dragon

Laenor is heir of the Velaryon House with Targaryen blood, which allows him to ride dragons and slowly become an important character in the rivalry for the throne. Yet, his role was cut short in Season 1 due to his faked demise, which slightly deviates from the books, where he actually dies.

Being a gay man in Westeros is not an easy feat, especially when one sees his family falling in ruins, yet Laenor positions himself as a good man and a good father to his non-biological children. Even though his return might mean some plot holes, Laenor Velaryon deserves to appear in Season 2 and is undoubtedly worthy of more screen time.

9 Mysaria

Ambitious, Powerful, And Well-Informed With A Growing Role

Mysaria as the White Worm in House of the Dragon

Mysaria was able to become so much more than the former lover of Prince Daemon Targaryen, showing what she is capable of in only a few appearances in the show. She knows exactly what she wants, and even though it may seem callous at times, she makes it happen.

Although her character has yet to be fully developed, the first season gave glimpses of her larger role to come. Making a name for herself with so little as the master of whisperers, she is bound to continue to do more tremendous feats in Season 2.

8 Otto Hightower

Duty And Dishonor Come Together Through A Political Architect

Otto Hightower in House of the Dragon.

After Season 1, it’s no secret that Otto Hightower is cunning and manipulative, using his own daughter as a pawn and being directly responsible for the kin war. Even though he has made some bad decisions, he has impacted the narrative as much as any protagonist.

Politicking at every moment, this dishonorable yet duty-bound character will keep disrupting and manipulating to make sure his House’s power grows. Even though he appears quite a bit in the first season, fans want to see more of his nuances as he balances his loyalty to his House but also to the Kingdom.

7 Ser Harrold Westerling

A Great Knight With Unwavering Allegiance Who Chooses Resignation Over Betrayal

Ser Harrold Westerling from House of the Dragon.

It’s an understatement to say that trustworthy and good characters are scarce in House of the Dragon, yet Ser Harrold Westerling maintained himself as a faithful commander of the Kingsguard. Loyal to a fault, the character is introduced at the beginning of the season but does not receive a lot of attention throughout it.

These characters in House of Dragon possess refined charisma, which adds to the quality of the show.

Going against Otto’s coop, he resigns as the Kingsguard, leaving this seasoned knight with an unknown fate ahead of him, especially since, in the books, he died decades before. However, as a great warrior and a Targaryen devotee, he could get more attention in Season 2, especially with the comfort he brings with his presence.

6 Lady Baela Targaryen

Badass And Valient With The Potential To Become More

Lady Baela Targaryen In House Of The Dragon

It’s true that not enough of Baela was showcased in Season 1 to make her a fan favorite, yet she has the potential to become one. With glimpses of how badass she can be, Season 2 should definitely show more of her skills as a dragonrider and her role in the war.

As Daemon’s eldest daughter, she has the makings of a great warrior, especially when considering her mother was also Vhagar’s rider. With a flourishing storyline, Baela can definitely make a difference as a warrior and bring glory to her name.

5 Lord Larys Strong

A Dangerous Mastermind With Ulterior Motives, Hiding In The Shadows

Larys Strong In House Of The Dragon

Lord Larys starts to show how far he is willing to go to serve himself during the first season of House of the Dragon. Controlling all chess pieces from the shadows, this second-born holds his power by listening and causing intrigue, yet he proves to be dangerous and calculating.

Self-serving and secretive, this member of House Strong may have only begun his journey in Season 1, but fans are curious to see what nefarious plans he has in store for the next chapter.

4 Helaena Targaryen

Team Green’s Most Undervalued Asset

Helaena Targaryen In House Of The Dragon

With an attachment to bugs and creatures, Helaena stands out among the Targaryens due to her morality and lack of malice. Even though she is initially soft-spoken, she grows as a character until she is consumed by grief and driven to madness.

These eight characters are unlikely to make it to the end of House of The Dragon season 2.

However, what makes her an overlooked yet powerful member of team green, is her premonitions that come through her ambiguous, foreshadowing remarks. Despite that, she continues to be ignored, and her value is understated despite a potential for greatness that should be highlighted in the upcoming season.

3 Aemond Targaryen

Twisted And Ruthless Yet Complex And Intelligent

Prince Aemond Targaryen In House Of The Dragon

As Viserys and Alicent’s second son, Aemond’s trajectory is marked by the curse of being a second-born overlooked for the throne, having to become an adept as a warrior, similar to Daemon. As one of the best dragonriders in the show, he claims the feared and old Vhagar.

During Season 1, his complexity and cruelty are developed hand in hand, yet it’s only the tip of the iceberg of what the character can become. From losing an eye at an early age to claiming his dragon, this character showcases a level of emotional intelligence that makes him more ruthless yet more likable.

2 Jacaerys Velaryon

A Good-Natured And Mature Heir With A Riveting Story To Come

Prince Jacaerys Velaryon in House of the Dragon.

Also known as Jace, Jacaerys is the firstborn and heir of Laenoe Velaryon and Rhaenyra Targaryen, making him a crucial member of the house Velaryon. Even though he might not be Laenor’s biological son, Jace has shown in the first season that he has the makings of a good-natured king.

Yet, during the first season, he was mostly kept in the background, slowly growing into his name and responsibilities. As the war escalates, his role should grow in Season 2 as he deals with his duties and tries to gain alliances with the Arryns and the Starks in the North, in a storyline fans are excited to see.

1 Daemon Targaryen

A Twisted, Charismatic, And Broken Character

Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon

It’s not up for discussion whether Daemon is a good person or not. Even though he is a fan favorite, he might be one of the most dangerous men in Westeros, having done some truly horrific things. From vying for his brother’s throne, seducing his niece, and much more, Daemon has done his fair share of evil doings.

Yet, the character weaved his way into fans’ hearts despite his malicious intent mixed in with his empathetic and charismatic moments. Daemon’s path, however, hints at more villainy and evil charisma that is sure to make Season 2 much more gripping.
