Challenger Pro League scandal: Seraing files complaint against Ostend for fielding an ineligible player

“Ostend is aware of Seraing's complaint regarding an ineligible player. It is in fact a computer error in the Belgian Union software. The player was indeed on our Squad List, which we were informed confirmed in the meantime,” KVO posted on social media on Tuesday.

Beaten by Deinze, Seraing officially leaves professional football

Alessandro Albanese joined Ostend after a season spent at Virton, but injured and remained on the sidelines for many months.

This player returned to the group in February. He came into play twice, remaining on the bench for other matches, notably at Seraing on March 31 (1-1) and at Patro Eisden on April 14 (2-3). These two matches can still be contested. What Seraing did, considering that Alessandro Albanese did not appear on this 'Squad List' which informs the Belgian Union of the players likely to be fielded.

For Seraing, Albanese was not there. For Ostend, it is a computer error. According to several media, the file must be examined by the Belgian Union on May 10. If Ostend is inflicted with forfeit scores for having fielded an ineligible player, Seraing could escape on the green carpet.
